Semaglutide is a synthetic GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist with approximately 94% sequence homology to native human GLP-1. Modified at positions 8 and 34 and with a C18 fatty diacid chain enabling albumin binding, it demonstrates an extended half-life compared to native GLP-1.
